Are you up to date with the November 2010 First Aid updates?

 

From November 2010, the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) make some additions, amendments and enhancements to the way first aid training should be carried out.

 

A brief summary of the November 2010 changes are as follows:

  • Rate of compressions is being increased to 100-120 compressions per minute
  • The depth of adult compressions are being changed from 4-5cm to 5-6cm
  • The depth of child (paediatric) compressions are being changed to at least one third of the chest depth
  • The two rescue breaths should take no more than 5 seconds to deliver
  • When summoning help, first aiders should ask for an automated external defibrillator (AED), if one is available

In October 2009, the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) made some additions, amendments and enhancements to the way first aid training should be carried out.

 

A brief summary of the October 2009 changes were as follows:

  • FAW courses are now three days (18 hours) in length
  • Appointed Persons courses are not HSE accredited, but Emergency (EFAW) courses are
  • EFAW and FAW courses must be delivered by a HSE approved organisation
  • FAW certificate holders are recommended to take an annual Basic Skills Update, 3 hour course
