Case Studies
The following stories are are 'real life accounts' from either our Instructors or previous course delegates.
In the event that you have a real life story you would like to share with us, you can do so by emailing.
The week after the course...
... the guys were taking heavy equipment out of the van when the handbrake snapped. My partner was squashed by the van and went into shock. All I could think about was going through the order of "D.R.A.B." in my head.
The methods worked and I am pleased to say that both of us were fine and quite relaxed after he recovered!
I was at a meeting...
... in a city centre theatre when there was a scream downstairs. The management team looked out to see a person laying on the floor with a small crowd around them. Although there was a first aider there, they seemed to be in a panic and I heard myself saying "I am a first aider". Somehow I went into automatic pilot, recognised they had had a heart attack and successfully put them into the recovery position whilst we waiting for an ambulance. I didn't expect to use my new skills quite so quickly!
I was on my way to my relatives...
... and driving on a dual carriageway and out of nowhere a car smashed into an oncoming HGV. As a first aid Instructor my partner relied on me to co-ordinate and deal with the incident. I was first on scene and we managed to keep airways opened until paramedics arrived. I am so relieved that I didn;t have to do any CPR. Teaching and learning first aid in one thing, but no-one ever wants to do it for real. I had flashbacks for weeks afterwards.
